On Friday, 2 December 2022, all Italian grassroots trade union organisations have called for a national general inter-branch strike. All public and private sectors are affected, from healthcare to schools, from factories to transport.
The strike is proclaimed for:
- Renewal of contracts and wage increases with automatic adjustment to the cost of living and with recovery of real inflation.
- Introduction by law of the minimum wage of 12 euros per hour.
- Cancellation of increases in service and energy tariffs, freezing and capping of prices of primary goods and fuels, forfeiture of extra revenues accrued by oil, gas and fuel companies.
- Reduction of working hours for equal pay.
- Stopping military spending and the sending of weapons to Ukraine, as well as economic investment in schools, public health, transport, and guaranteed wages for the unemployed and underemployed.
- Relaunch of a new structural plan for public housing, including the reuse of currently disused public property, for the benefit of working-class sectors and workers.
- Stop the massacres of workers, introduce the crime of murder at work.
- Stop the school counter-reform and cancel alternating school-work and internships run by public and private vocational training centres.
- Defence of the right to strike. Recognition of minimum rights and trade union agility in all workplaces for all basic trade union organisations.
- Introducing a new energy policy that uses renewable sources, without resorting to nuclear power and regasifiers.
- Increase resources for self-determination, protection of women’s health and to fight discrimination, oppression in work, family and society.
Against:
- Privatisation and the procurement/subcontracting system reinforced by the Competition Bill, which attack collective interests for the benefit of corporations and speculators.
- The Differentiated Autonomy that disintegrates the country and widens social differences between territories.
- War and the war economy, a real human and social disaster for peoples and workers.
